Not So Peachy Loss

Learning a hard lesson on how to store soft fruits

·

Do you remember the peaches I picked from my visit to a fall festival? Well, half of them were lost to mold ;w; Admittedly, it was my fault for leaving them all on the counter, stacked up in the bag I picked them with.

But I also didn’t expect them to go bad so quickly, it’s only been two days. I guess that’s why grocery stores pick them before they fully ripen; they wouldn’t survive being transported anyways. Something cool I learned is that the pits inside peaches are actually very easy to remove when they’re fully ripe :o

Now that I learned what the tradeoff is for picking them fresh off the farm versus buying them from the grocery store, next time I’m definitely going to refridgerate them ^^;

Our little peach tree did really well last year, and produced ~100-200 peaches, but had some mold growing on some of them. We spent ~1-2 months checking for moldy peaches and removing them in hopes of mitigating the molds spread. We lost quite a few but still got plenty for smoothies!
